This Week:
- Students wrote a quiz on measures of variation (median, interquartile range, outliers, etc.)
- Students read and responded to sonnets and read poems with differing perspectives
- Students learned about two types of electricity: static and current
- Students wrote sentences in French using the regular verbs we've learned
- Students held their freezie sale, the action part of their Junior Achievement project.
Next Week:
- We will look at ways to visually plot data in math
- Students will write sonnets and tanka poems
- Students will look at the sources of electricity in our world
- Students will begin to learn about Ancient Greek philosophers
- Students will create French dialogues about their sports preferences
- Friday is the last Pro-D Day of this school year
This Week:
- We invited Carolyn Barter into our class as a Junior Achievement volunteer. She is teaching the class how to run a business.
- Students completed a math quiz on Mean, Median, Mode, and Range.
- Students completed a stations lab in Social Studies, looking at the Geography, Economy, religion, Achievements, Government, and Social Structure of Ancient Greece.
- Students wrote a test on Regular Verbs in French.
- Students practiced writing poetry in the style of Blackout Poems, Haikus, and Cinquains.
Next Week:
- Students will practice measures of variation in Math.
- Students will analyse poetic works.
- Students will have their 3rd Junior Achievement lesson and hold their Freezie sale on Friday.
- Students will learn about different sources of electricity.
This Week:
- We began our unit in math on statistics and data analysis with a look at measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode, and range).
- We wrote examples of personification, alliteration, hyperbole, simile, metaphor, and idioms.
- We began our unit on electricity with an activity "Electricity in my World."
- We read a "Snapshot" overview article on Ancient Greece and answered questions.
- We learned how to conjugate regular verbs in French
Next Week:
- We will continue to work with measures of central tendency and look at sampling methods in math.
- We will begin our Poetry Portfolio Project in English and write poems inspired by colours.
- We will continue to work with regular verbs in French.
- We will write notes on atoms and how they relate to electricity.
- We will begin our "Junior Achievement" program with a volunteer from the community on Monday afternoon. Students will work to build a business of their own.
- We will have a presentation from Island Sexual Health on Wednesday afternoon about maturation and sexual decision making.
- Several students from our class will receive their effort roll certificates in the Term 2 Recognition Assembly on Thursday afternoon. Parents are welcome to attend if they choose. The assembly begins at 1:30 in the gym.
