December 15

This Week:

  • We continued on our grammar mini-unit, learning about plural and possessive nouns, pronouns, and verbs.
  • We practiced calculating discounts, taxes, and tips on purchases.
  • We learned about different glacial ages in the Earth's history.
  • We continued to work on the French menu project.
  • In our neighbourhood, we had an afternoon of holiday activities.
  • We spotted an owl in the woods during a nature walk.
  • We collected 64 items for the Sooke Food Bank.
  • Students received their first term report cards.
Next Week:

  • We will have a Christmas party on Thursday afternoon. There will be a gift exchange game. Any student who wishes to participate needs to bring in a wrapped gift ($10-$15 value) on Thursday. If you bring in a gift, you will get a gift.
  • The talent show is scheduled on Friday from 10:30-12:00. Parents are invited to attend if they wish.
  • We will continue to practice financial percents in Math.
  • We will continue to review parts of speech in English.
  • We will learn about how primitive humans created fire, made tools, and their methods of hunting.

Term 2 Exploratory forms went home today. You can start bringing them back on Monday morning to the foyer. Please bring in any waivers or fees you need for your first choice. Cheques can be made payable to School District 62.

This Week:

  • We learned about common and proper nouns, and how to pluralize nouns correctly.
  • We practiced converting numbers between fraction and decimal forms.
  • We learned about different early human groups.
  • We began a French project where students will create their own French menu.
Next Week:

  • We will review verbs and possessive nouns in English.
  • We will learn about the Ice Age 
  • We will learn about how early humans began to use fire and  hunt.
  • We will continue to work on the French menu project.
  • We will begin looking at how percent is related to fractions and decimals.

We've made it to the end of Term 1!

This Week:

  • Students finished writing their short stories in English.
  • Students wrote the unit test for Evolution in Science.
  • Students wrote a French quiz on the verbs manger, boire, and avoir.
  • In math, we began a new unit on fractions, decimals, and percent.
  • We looked at the distinguishing features of humans, and how we differ from other animals.
  • We saw two plays from Justice Theatre, and got a sense of how the court system works in Canada.
  • We received a workshop from Learning Through Loss, which allowed students to think and talk about the process of grief, and how to cope with loss.
Next Week:

  • We will compare and order fractions and decimals, and convert between fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Students will perform their French partner presentations on Tuesday, and begin creating their own menu.
  • We will look at the advantages of walking upright on two feet.
  • We will practice some grammar and editing skills.
