May 25

This Week:

  • Students completed their poetry portfolio projects.
  • Students learned vocabulary about current electricity and learned about how electricity is measured.
  • Students began a French unit on hobbies and pastimes.
  • Students began a unit in math on algebraic equations.


Next Week:

  • Students will continue to work on one-step and two-step algebraic equations.
  • Students will begin a unit on Media Literacy.
  • Students will interview a partner in French about their hobbies and write a paragraph describing their partner.
  • Students will begin a timeline project for Ancient Greece.
  • We will participate in a traditional pit cook on Tuesday for the full day. Activities will include mural making, traditional Aboriginal dancing, drumming, and more.

May 18

This Week:

  • Students began putting together their final poetry portfolios. They are choosing 6 of the 12 poems we wrote in class, and 2 of the 4 poetry responses, then they will create good copies and hand in their final portfolio. Portfolios are due on Friday, May 25.
  • We worked with creating and interpreting circle graphs, and students wrote a circle graph quiz today.
  • Students learned how to conjugate the verb "faire" in French.
  • Students learned about Alexander the Great and wrote opinion paragraphs to declare whether or not he deserved his title.
  • We had a presentation from Skills Canada where the students learned about opportunities they can take in high school if they choose to work in the trades and technology field. They also got to use pictures, schematics, and instructions to build an electrical circuit and a plumbing conduit.


Next Week:

  • Monday is Victoria Day - no school!
  • We will learn some vocabulary for current electricity and will read about how electricity is measured
  • Students will continue to create good copies of their poetry portfolios
  • We will practice algebraic thinking involving unknown numbers
  • Students will begin to learn new vocabulary about hobbies and pastimes in French

This Week:

  • Students wrote limericks and analysed song lyrics in English
  • Students presented their Sports Dialogues in French
  • Students read about different sources of electricity in Science
  • Students read about Alexander the Great's accomplishments and made judgments about whether or not he is worthy of his title in Social Studies
  • Students reviewed how to solve proportional relationships in Math, and applied that knowledge to construct circle graphs


Next Week:

  • Students will write diamante poems and analyse slam poetry
  • Students will learn current electricity vocabulary
  • Students will continue to create and analyse circle graphs
  • We will have our final visit from Carolyn for our Junior Achievement program
  • We will have a presentation on Tuesday morning from Skills Canada and students will have the opportunity to try a hands-on building project
  • Students will complete a quiz in French on sports vocabulary and reading comprehension
